For you Jefferson lovers....I have been infatuated with the 1939 S Reverse of 40 for several years. I have a PCGS MS66, but now picked up an NGC FS. This one was listed on ebay at a price I could not even hesitate at. So many of them have dull luster. This one shines like the sun, unlike most nickels I have seen. I love it! And, the Pop is 11/2. Only 21 with FS designation in all grades.
I stopped at a coin shop yesterday when I was driving through northern Mississippi and came out with a couple of new low cost additions. I found this patriotic piece which my very first Civil War token. The holder lists it as "268 R1". And here's one of those coins that begs the question of why anyone would bother to have it slabbed. At first glance it looks like it could be high grade BU, but on closer examination there is definite wear. Somebody with limited grading skills must have hoped for a 64 or 65 and was sadly disappointed when they got a $10 coin back in the mail.
A pair of Mint Set Toned Lincolns from the year 1948. Thank you CoinTalk member flyers10 for a couple of very cool rainbow 1948 Lincolns. The 1948-P graded MS65BN and the 1948-D graded MS66RB. I probably would have graded them both BN since these are both so far away from that original copper color and they both look so similar.
New pickup tonight. Another impulse buy. Paid too much for it, but it's nice. It's the only non-FB 1916 P Mercury with a ☆ designation. I think there are only 21 ☆'s with FB's in all grades. Looks like there is a very tiny bridge that connects the bands that keeps it from FB.
I'm a sucker for silver and I have a weakness for Mercury dimes (even the ones with patina) and I'm starting to like toned coins. 3 for 3.
I've been off the radar for awhile, but am still as enamored by coins and all these amazing new acquisitions posted as I was since I was last was online! Broke a long buying spell with a nice cherry-pick from online (see if you spot it):
Heh... ok, when you said "cherry pick," I assumed there was a variety unattributed on the slab or that you bought them raw. But, if you bought them raw, why put them in PCI or ICG plastic? Hence my confusion.
