    "stylobate"

    In classical Greek architecture, a stylobate (Greek: στυλοβάτης) is the top step of the crepidoma, the stepped platform on which colonnades of temple columns are placed (it is the floor of the temple).

    I stumbled on this photo this morning ... Robec did a great job. This is a 1931-S Daniel Carr restrike -- the series actually ended in 1930. I still think it's one cool deisgn -- why cant the mint produce coins that look like this again?

    I just hope they do not screw-up the re-issued designs with laser-etched frosting on the proofs. It would be a tremendous disservice to the artists and their numismatic legacies.
