    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Read the title and thought the post was about getting your affairs in order because you had to report to federal prison soon. :D

    Nice lot, though. Enjoy.

Sorry I am a little bit late with my reaction, first thought was whoww, but looking more closely, I see many with makes me doubt if they are authentic, some maybe are but many look not good, such as the Marc Anthony and indeed the Tiberius denarius and some bronce that look more machine pressed made.

I took a good look again, somehow the look familiar to me, but I am 100% sure only two or three are authentic, I am sorry, the Nero's and other all look not correct.
I think when you sent a few pictures to Roma numanistic they would help you and give advise, but I have seen so many coins and these smell too much.

I do not wish to give somebody a bad day, but I am fooled many time in 20 years collecting, but not so much anymore and i fear the worsted for these coins.
I am still sorry to write this but we need all to protect collectors from dissapointments, there is mostly too much money involved.

I have looked through the image (magnified) a few times. There are certainly some that it is worth spending time checking out their validity but the majority are just very nice, authentic coins.

Carfeul attention needed on the obvious scarcities. I have made a scan for most through the fake reports and haven't found anything obvious yet.

I tend to agree with this assessment of this collection (it's really a mischaracterization to call it a "lot"), but there are a couple of basic questions to which the answer would be very helpful in determining whether most or all of the coins are authentic:

    1. Was the collection purchased from a reputable dealer or auction house?

    2. Was the purchase price commensurate with the apparent value of the collection as a whole?

The value of this collection, if authentic, is clearly well into the thousands of dollars. If it were purchased for, say, $800, I would be extremely suspicious of the authenticity of many or most of the coins. On the other hand, if its purchase price were $5,000 from a reputable source, then I would be very comfortable with the authenticity.

(Note that I'm not asking to have the purchase price revealed, just that the OP assesses what he paid relative to the value.)

Finally, to my eye, the 12 Caesars coins appear to be genuine insofar as I can see sufficient detail on them. This isn't definitive, of course, but nothing that I see here is screaming "I'm a fake!"

Zumbly is no rube and I doubt there will be many inauthentic coins in this collection. There may be some "problem" coins but that would be expected of such a grouping. The auction house is reputable and the opening price and hammer reflect a desirable lot rather than a "too good to be true" deal.

My thanks to Martin, Ides and Cyrrhus for their comments and the time they took to look at these coins closer. At this point, having actually handled and looked at these coins in hand, my own opinion is that the majority are good though a few are in need of closer scrutiny.

Ides' questions on the circumstances of purchase are valid and in this case I have confidence in the auction house, their cataloger (whom I've corresponded and met with), as well as the price I paid for the coins.

None of this is to say that there might not be fakes here in this group. As I mentioned, I have my detailed checking ahead of me and if nothing else I'll be even more diligent with that now. I've always understood in buying ancients that any time I have to spend looking for fakes and possibly even finding some are just par for the course.

Thanks for jumping in with that, TIF. Yeah, I was sound asleep and when the F word was mentioned I jumped right out of bed, lol :D.

Thanks too, @stevex6, for the Batman call! That's another opinion I'm glad to hear :).
