I wasted a day going to the Chicago coin show. Silver town and other dealers hired the homeless and boxed out most of the collecting individuals. (I was disgusted) I was glad that Modern coin mart decided to leave the coins alone. I never got a gold kenneddy from the show to add to my complete sets. But I did get the highest grade on a set on P and D which most collectors took for granted. I got two sets from the US mint because there was no line prior to the gold line. So I now have a complet set of Keneddy's which are #1 on NGC's site. So all in all I learned to buy what you like and dont trust most of the dealers. They ripped off the very public they sell to. I ended up grading the Keneddys myself and didn't get the show label. It cost me fines with Chicago's toll system.

That's my feeling too. Speculators are also seeing what the 70's are selling for and are snapping up sets to have graded. It'll take a while for the dust to settle and then we'll see where they are. I still think they're a bad investment at 100 bucks.

According to this article the set was being proposed for 2015 http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-mint-officials-considering-range-of-2015-and-2016-new-products.html. (note that the first article is dated a few days earlier and uses language that suggests this is all confirmed while the later article dated a few days later states the set is 'proposed' based on the U.S. mint reps info)

Although the 2nd article mentions the mint is going to have a special offering for the ANA show in August. Perhaps that is when we will see the full reverse proof set released or any one of these other multiple proof set types the mint was considering based on the article. But this article also states the RP set is for commemorating the SF mint producing proofs. Although the special coin could be the high relief silver/gold coins for the ANA show also which have no release date as of yet.

As an aside one of the last U.S. mint surveys I took had a listing regarding the 2016 offerings commemorating the mercury dime, standing Liberty quarter, and walking liberty half and had a choice for offering the sets in reverse proof design. Hopefully based on the sell out of other reverse proof products they offer this next year as those are coins I'd like to see in RP.

...and while I don't especially care if they do RP versions of those coins, I certainly hope it's not the only commemorative issue they produce. As I've said before, I find the RP look repulsive, and while I'm willing to speculate on them, I don't like to look at them. I'd love to see these beautiful designs produced again, but I hope RP is not the only way we get to see them...

Looks like commemorative abuse is slowly working it's way back into the mix of things at the mint. I thought congress passed a law limiting commemorative offerings to two issues/year? In the technical sense, the MOD dimes are not commemoratives in nature but there is a very thin line separating things. After all, they are being sold with a commemorative coin. And these future (maybe, possibly?) RP coins.......what are they?

I hope they don't do RP's of the Merc, SLQ and WLH. Mint them in 90% silver, like the old days. Offer all three in a set and individually. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best.

I think that they are being minted in 24k gold as coins and the silver versions have to be minted as medals because the law only approved the gold coins technically and they would need a new law to approve the minting of them as silver coins.

This sounds like a really exciting release. The prediction of this March of dimes set being the coins of the century may go down next year. lol Better start saving our pennies now! I bet those are going to be extremely popular. Whether reverse proofs or not.

Heavens no. We really don't need a whole reverse proof set. Next it will be the deluxe limited edition RP set. What's next the new U.S. Mint Sand Dollar? :banghead:

Was there free shipping on that $106.50 sale? Let's forget shipping and do the math. 106.50/61.95 = 1.72. Hmm, I guess a 72% markup is now moon money. Who knew? Maybe Eddiespin can get his set for $65 by the time the ANA show rolls around after all.

Hmm... $106.50 minus 10% to sell... not worth the effort.

I'd assume they will drop to at least $80-$85 in short term. Once the small demand gets what they want, it will be a stagnant sale.

That's around a 40% gross margin on sales, Kurt. You're right. It's in the ballpark. It's certainly nothing to sneeze at.

I expect the final equilibrium price on a normal unmolested original packaging set to settle out in the $80-$90 range. Nothing special, unless you compare it to the average new issue, which settles out BELOW OIP.

But if you REALLY want to lose money, buy the pieces graded 70 now.
