My uncle died this year. He was 17 on D-day and landed troops on Utah beach.

We are in US Coins Forum, it means that it's correct to show US coins only, or may be accepted from other countries too...Great Britain, Germany?

Interesting reading in this mornings paper (digital edition). A veteran (92 yrs) of D-Day was sharing some of his personal experiences from that day (June 6). What he remembered the most was having to zig zag around the bodies (Omaha Beach) lying on the ground. The tanks that were supposed to support their assault all sank coming ashore and they were subject to withering fire by German machine guns and 88mm anti aircraft guns. It has been only recently that he was able tell of the carnage on that day, having kept silent about it for a good many years. I'm glad some vets of this engagement (and others) are finally opening up about their past experiences of WWII. There aren't too many of these fellows left and first hand, eye witness accounts of battles and engagements by the ones who were there will soon be lost forever..........

We will soon live in a world where no one remembers what a World War is like.
