I guess I"m a prime example. I don't collect dimes specifically but I collect a broad range and I liked this set. I also missed the initial mint offering and only heard about them on this forum. A lot of potential buyers may not even know about the set yet. It looks like a decent percentage of them have been broken up already and are in slabs circulating individually. I don't know if it's a winner or not. I just wanted one set. Not looking to flip it or buy any more. I actually pass on most modern commemorative sets these days.
All "uncertified" means is it doesn't have permission to trade in a TPG's market at the TPG's price guide. It doesn't mean the coin is no good. Of course if the buyer doesn't know what he's doing, he needs those ready-made grades.
I have stated may time on this forum that I hate proofs, and would never put one in my collection. However this coin is a game changer and is a must own for me. For 40 pages you have been wrong over and over again. You are embarrassing yourself.
you are neglecting the fact that the 2 dimes are simply some of the coolest moderns - many non-dime collectors will want these- they are some amazing coins.
I hope for your sake they take off, but it seems the buzz is already dwindling. Just checked sales of last few raw sets today on eBay: $113.61, $111, $109.95, $109.95. This is well below the $140 and $145 you were touting in this thread earlier this morning. I don't see $200 like you say, and your window to flip at these slightly higher prices may be closing fast. Who knows though?
May not always attain 'through the roof' status but I believe these sets will settle well north of $61.95........
while I appreciate the "uniqueness" of these coins (the 2 dimes), what I question is their long term potential. Especially when the Mint issues an entire Reverse Proof Set later this year. It will make this MOD set less of a game changer and more of an also ran. Kind of like the 4 coin Kennedy Half sets from last year. Yes, the coins are unique to the set, but I haven't heard anyone clammering for the Enhanced Uncirculated coin, or the Reverse Proof Kennedy, let alone the Philly proof or the silver Denver coin.
I was at work when the ordering opened, so a hour +, I entered a backorder with no expectation date, so I just went on, expecting none, and today a mint message they are shipped. I am sure I was outside the original announced limit.
Has there been any more info on this? The only thing I've seen was that one article from August, 2014 and nothing since then or anything from the mint themselves in regards to it.
It was opening day, I honestly can not recall the time, the last digits of the order for mint are 087XX , and I ordered 5 and that is what is coming. Probably all 'rejects'
I haven't heard anymore either. It may be they're issuing the RP's in separate sets, rather than one proof set.
So, you were within the announced limits [of 75k]. I don't think they ever announced how many they had available before they went to backorder.
