Hey folks I just purachased this coin from a seller on eBay. The coin is in this small slab that say 63/65 on it , has some certificate with a company's name and photos of the coin . I have read that coins were givin two grade, one for obverse, one for reverse years ago. Can anyone give me a bit of info about this coin and possible the company that has graded it..
I want to share this info and website with you - http://coinauctionshelp.com/ANICS_TPGS.html#.VW4qiWdFCt8
Wow guess I should have searched a bit before buying this one . Really disappointed me, I thought since it was older from the 1980s that the grade would at least be accurate. I thought it was kind of neat but now I really don't even want it. Guess I could ask the seller to let the next bidder have it , maybe if I explain to the seller I thought it was an old anacs coin, I really did to. He might cancel the sell. Boy do I feel stupid .. So it's not even old?
Don't be so harsh on yourself. There was a thread not long ago where members shared there weird slabs of all kinds and someone had one just like yours. To me, I look at it as a collectable slab. But it's up to you as to what you want to do. I would keep it as I use my slabs for educational and historical reasons.
You right I saw that thread, thats why when I came across this coin I was like wow thats one of those old photo grade company's from back in the day. If I knew this was just a small company back in the 80s that gave fair grades . Then at some point end up going out of business id be happy to own it . Seems from that link you posted it's a basement guy just making these things .. So idk
@Barber dime 94s If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it? I can't imagine a whole lot. It's only a 1963 Franklin half after all. Looking at the link above, It's not a current basement slabber or even within the last decade. I think it's pretty cool my self.
As a piece of history, it is itself collectable and commands a modest premium. I assume this is the listing? http://www.ebay.com/itm/121622222120 With today's gradeflation MS63 isn't out of reach, MS63 $18, MS62 $14 - so at $25, you paid a modest premium.
Well guys I came across the coin , like a dummy didn't look in to the company name . I thought it was an old anacs coin , was so happy when I won it.. I've searched all over the place online trying to find info about these guys , the link paddy man posted is all that's out there about them .. So my excitement quickly turned to disappointment , I haven't paid yet and was thinking of canceling the order.. Only thing is I kind of like it and think it's neat, what worries me is if the coin is over grade as I'm wanting a nice unc franklin. What would you guys have payed for the coin ?
I like what he wrote and I would add that since you bid on it; I think you're morally obligated to pay for it. Asking the dealer to cancel the transaction would be unfair. It's a cool slab with some history to both the coin and the slab. I'd say just keep it and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
Idk, its slabbed and you needed it....$25 was fair. Its a good conversation piece. On the other hand, I would have paid $10.
I had $25.00 at the back of my mind. And add in that "You" like it. That is all that really matters in the end. Now if you were buying it to try and flip it and make money, then you don't have much chance. You'd probably break even if that. You basically paid retail for it. You didn't really over pay though. So pay the seller and and enjoy your new acquisition. At least this coin has a little bit of a story behind it.
I had someone message me asking to buy it or give them the sellers info so they possible could. I explained to him that since I had bid , it wouldnt be fair to the seller for me to cancel .. The coin in the post above isn't the listing I purchased it from that was a D mint coin mine is a P mint.. It seems as if I wouldn't have a problem selling it , or trading for something else. Here's the listing
Thanks for posting guys. I believe everyone is right , I think I will enjoy having it since I don't have anything like it . There's unc franklins on eBay left and right but not in these slabs , like a few of ya mentioned the holder itself is interesting enough to keep it around ..
Realize that it is not a "slab". The holder is just a post market [ie post grading] plastic holder. The originals were in simple 2X2's [plastic] flips.
