I not trying convince you , if you say it larger diameter then silver dime then it will be larger. In my hand it showing same size as dime, I will send NGC some time if I think it was real , i will check few dealers first .
Just a throwback for the newer members - penny on quarter thread from last year https://www.cointalk.com/threads/penny-on-quarter-planchet.256707/#post-2039971 MINT ASSISTED!
Until proved otherwise, this cannot be genuine. The obverse scratches seem to indicate that the piece is truly copper. If it was a copper planchet or blank cut from a copper strip using the dime size punch, then there would be clear reeding. It does appear to be larger, which cannot happen unless it is a broadstrike. However, it has none of the distortion associated with a broadstrike. In addition, it had a medallic rotation, which, while not impossible, would be one too many errors on one coin. Therefore, sorry, but I have to feel that it is: 1) a contemporary counterfeit. or 2) a modern item that was passed off to a collector to cheat him.
I don't know where you see it appears larger, I have it on top other barber dime and silver barber dime on top of it, showing perfect fit on each others.
As for the scratches, could it be possible someone scratched it first and then plated it with copper color? That would make people think it has been "test scratched" and copper shows through.
Maybe camera angles makes you feel little larger, if it larger than silver dime it will show copper rim or silver rim when on top each other.
Dude, I hope it is real, but it really is bizarre. Didn't someone here once have a cent struck over a dime or something like that...probably worth 7 million dollars.
You seem to have a lot of weird coins. Where do you get them? China? The fact that something that unique isn't professionally graded and has rotation error makes it seem like a forgery. I can imagine that would be made easily today
