Here's my assortment of Probus antoninianii, one still silvered with a 'chunk' taken out of the middle.......

 

I have some unphotographed Probus imperials but probably nothing noteworthy.

Also not noteworthy but I still like them, a couple of Alexandrian tetradrachms of Probus. I have at a dozen more of his tetradrachms, courtesy of several fun mixed lots . Perhaps I should think about selling the duplicates. Hey @John Anthony, are you still selling on eBay? If so, I should round up some my mixed lot runners-up and work out a deal.

It was in a paper envelope labeled "ROME, Probus. AD 276-282". Under the flap, "KRAMER, May 1958. $1.00".

 

Mikey Zee's Mars with a chunk missing is one I would like (preferably with the chunk intact if possible). It is part of the Rome mint AEQVITI series along with the three I show below.

Each mintmark begins with R for Roma and ends with the Greek numeral for the workshop. Mikey's is Gamma for 3; mine show B, delta and Z for 2, 4 and 7 respectively. In the middle is a code letter being the letters that spell the word AEQVITI used in order one per coin. We are missing coins that would have mintmarks RAA, RIE and RTS. Do any of you have them?

Ticinum mint has a similar and more common series based on only six workshops. They started with AEQVIT leaving off the repeated I but later changed the word to EQVITI omitting the lead A. This lead modern collectors and scholars to debate the meaning of the word since the A would make us think of 'fairness' while the E start makes the word 'horsemen' or 'equestrians'. I doubt we can prove this one.

I once intended tho fill out my set (I have the Ticinum E series (and have a page on my site on them) but only the three Romes and not one of the Ticinum A series. I have to admit I have not been actively searching but every so often I see a coin from the series and check to see if it is one I lack.

Thanks guys. That's one thing I like about Probus, he has a lot of reverse types.

 

Several reverse types, vastly more than average obverse variations, many mints and styles ---- If only he had the taste to be born in an era when someone was writing history, Probus would be a top favorite. What we know of his reign is interesting but he had no Suetonius.

My favorite Probus story is that he was so successful in war that he assigned spare soldiers to labor tasks (draining marshes) that some of them found beneath their position. In general it is not a good idea to make the guys with knives mad at you. The problem is our information is not solid enough to know with certainty what happened. What we do know is Carus ended up emperor.

Yes, I did ask, Topcat. lol You have some reverse types I don't. I would post the others but they need a reshoot.

 

Topcat. The coin you have as XXIP Cyzicus mint. RIC VII 911 is misattributed. It actually comes from Siscia, RIC 776, Alföldi Table XXXVI, Type 71. It has the interesting attribute of stylised clouds under the quadriga.

Here is my XXIVI for comparison.
