Gee, are those from the Rome's Greatest Hits Collection? Nice! There've been a couple of Venus Cloacina denarii on auction recently; that example you just posted trounces them all.
Thanks! There has been a run of them lately. Hmm. When I was looking for them last summer there were few from which to choose. Perhaps this is another case of popularity due to exposure? I posted the writeup (A Deity Worthy of Respect) on every ancient coin forum I could find . After that, many people mentioned wanting one (although often that is likely said to show support rather than for true intent of impending purchase). Maybe existing owners took note, thought the prices might be good due to demand, and consigned their Cloacinas? Maybe I'm giving to much credit to coin forums but I do believe trends in demand are at least in part due to exposure on such forums.

A 'rat' ??? What could possibly be the meaning of including that on a coin?? And 'Hermanubis'---now that is WAY COOL!! First time I can recall seeing that...let alone Martins denarius....
I'm pretty sure no one has a real clue about the rat, but I really like that bust of Hercules, and I'm born in the Year of the Rat, so yeah... I love the coin!
