Reverse proof Roosevelt dime most significant coin of century.

That is not true at all. Look at the auction records on PCGS Coin Facts. I found spiked premiums as far back as December of 1997, long before the Registry!

The 1998 Red Book, sold in April of 1997 and written earlier than that, has it at $600. I don't have a '97 Red Book.

 

I don't know the whole history, but it is what it is. If I remember correctly, there was a very small window of less than a year that they could be had for what I said.

 

And, these dimes are what PCGS is talking about.

 

I lived the whole history, from the inside. Mine was one of the 30,125.

 

My opinion of what that article says is that the more often the Mint goes to this well, the sooner it will dry up. Great ideas get ruined by overexposure. Sort of a Law of Diminishing Returns. Yeah, the Mint wins. Everybody else gets "rotating inclined plane wrapped around an axis"ed.

 

So, what do you think? Is the ratio of 75k to the number of dime collectors less than the ratio of 30k to the number of ASE collectors? It very well could be .

No, I believe the ratio is higher, MUCH higher. Do you listen to Mike and Matt's podcast? The ASE is THE most widely actively collected series today, beyond even the Lincoln cent. Note the word "actively". It excludes legacy collections lying fallow.

 

You're going to quote Mike & Matt over PCGS? What can I say? Stackers are stacking ASE's, but a small percentage are collectors - look at how many 2012 or 2013 ASE sets were ordered and divide by five. Mike & Matt do have an interesting show, if you're down on moderns. The last time I listened, I think Mike would bring up a modern and Matt would trash it, or was it the other way around? It's pretty well known that the number of state quarter collectors out did the Lincoln after 1999.

As for Roosy collectors, look at how, what was it 10's of millions of 2009 roosies initially disappeared from circulation. That's a shady indicator, but lows of 10's of millions of Roosies caused them to be hoarded.

 

I got nothing against trying new things, I may try it. Like I told you, though, they're hot with ram induction right now. But the Mint made only so many, do you know why? Because that's all the people they know would want these. And, they're right, you watch and see. In fact, I think they made too many. I may pick one up when the price gets real. I don't need them for my collection. Only the die-hard proof and special set people need them.

I heard a rumor they are going to end the Roosy Dime soon. Anyone else hear that?

It's long over due. This dime set may be the little goodie the Mint gives us before its swan song.

For that matter, we're getting "little goodies" for several series that are due to or over due to end.

 

I'm thinking Reagan will probably be replacing someone. I don't think they will bring back Lady Liberty unless they decide to redesign her with some sex appeal to try and boost interest in collecting and sales.

Maybe they go in an entirely new direction by doing away with a human figure on the obverse. Maybe replace person with landmark. I don't see this happening though.

 

Reagan would be nice to see. I have to agree though, the Dime has had the same design since 1946, I think a change is more then needed and overdue.
