I've got mail - 1918 Lincoln Commemorative (PCGS)

This one is PCGS graded but wanted to see what others would grade this in their collection compared to the TPG.

This one burst with luster and is one of my favorite coins right now!

I'd rate it a '64.......

 

MS-65

 

I'm at MS65.

 

I'd say a strong 64, very beautiful

 

I'd go either AU-58 or MS-64 . I think I see a little shine on the high areas , but a beautiful coin .

If being technical about it, not really... as the lower unc grades would be removed from consideration (not in response to the OP's coin, but in general).

 

64+. The big ding near his mouth prevented me from saying 65. Nice coin.

 

And there we have it, goys and birls - THE reason technical grading is inadequate and dying away. The jump from 58 to 64 makes infinite sense in a technical grading world, but not the modern market grading world.

In the modern world an otherwise 64 with a nearly imperceptible rub becomes a 63 or a 62, not a 58. Some may call it grade inflation. I call it eliminating nonsense.

 

Thanks for taking a look and putting in what you would grade this as in your collection. It is graded as an MS 63, but I think it could have a shot at 64. The marks are not nearly as distracting as they show in my super large photos! lol.

I'll say. I had it at MS65. You win some, you lose some. I guess...

After hearing the grade, I'd have to say @rzage saw what he thinks he saw, but was wrong about the impact on the grade. I especially like the fields on this, and maybe I'm the mutant in the room, but I applaud the demise of old-school technical grading.

I would never give a coin with that little wear an AU grade , the field would have to have what I call circulation dings . I also don't think you're the mutant in the room as I like the tpgs grading as sporadic as it can be , better then the hodgepodge ways of yesterday . But I think you underestimate the collectors who did fine even back then as we knew when to call a spade a spade . If there was some disagreement all one did was not buy or sell the said coin . But the reason for my spread was you never know on a certain coin what the tpgs will give .
