I was under the impression he took a BU original Barber Half and over struck the date on it. So if he didn't create the die, and just over struck the date, then no it's not a copy.
No he takes worn coins and "mints" them with a complete die . Morgandudes coin grades MS-67 . Do you think he would take a coin worth thousands of dollars and sell them for a couple hundred ?
Oh, please! Have you no eyes? There is a very good reason why his "fantasy" Peace dollars look very familiar... Also, it seems as though you are saying that only the date is overstruck, which, of course, would be false.
My intent was not to press the issue; I simply had not read your response to the other gentleman at the time of posting.
Totally going off on a tangent, but: My city makes a bad example. You would probably get shot before you can fire in the air a second time.
Why didn't I know that someone would try to come up with some other justification to support the contention that these non-coins serve a valid purpose in the numismatic community? Chris
Amid all of this rhetoric, not one person has given a valid reason why the word "COPY" shouldn't be placed on these non-coins. Just because Mr. Carr has found a loophole in the law doesn't mean that it is right and beneficial for numismatics. Chris
Hi Mr. Carr, when you find time aside from debating everybody here whom has their panties in a wad, please ship me my order, and if you ever put the word copy on any of your issues i'm out!
Here is a product that was endorsed and sold by the Smithsonian Institution. The coin says "United States of America", "Liberty", and "One Hundred Dollars" on it, and it also has the date "1876", but it doesn't have "COPY" on it anywhere. Maybe it is a super rare US Pattern coin ? Better watch out ! Somebody is going to get cheated ! What has the world come to ? It is no longer acceptable to blame the con man ?
f(for example) The difference is a defaced coin vs. a copy coin. If you took some Picasso prints and over-printed something on them, and then sold them as rzage edition Picasso prints, what is wrong with that ? My "haters" comment was not directed towards any people who, in a civil manner, announce their dislike for the over-strikes and choose not to buy them. The "haters" I refer to are the ones who send or post nasty messages with no basis in fact or evidence, and/or think that they have the right to dictate what others can and can not collect. Several years ago I received multiple death threats for making "Amero" coins. I mean come on people ! This is a hobby. No need to get worked up over a few "what if" Union of North America "Amero" coins (for example).
Folks: If you don't like them, don't buy/collect/look at them. If ya like 'em, go for it. Enough, if someone thinks you are nuts for collecting coins will you condemn them? I hope not, just shake you head and move on. To each his own, and anyone with an ounce of brains would check out a catalogue (or Red Book) before buying a coin. To those who buy then ask questions, if it was clearly marked 'copy' and the seller erased (removed) the 'Copy" would Mr. Carr still be at fault? I hope not. How many people have 'found' rare coins in the family attic/basement/wherever and thought it was a $1 million coin? We see them here often enough, and those people don't even look to see that it clearly says 'copy' on the coin before they start spending their treasure. Look: like & buy if you wish. Look: don't like, move on. As I stated on page one, they are not for me, but I wouldn't want to prevent anyone who likes them from getting one.
Could not agree more--if you don't like them (fantasy coins, tokens, restricts), then don't buy them. However, the counterfeit argument is really old--this in no way is at all similar to Chinese copies of Morgan and Trade Dollars being passed off as genuine US currency collectibles. These are fantasy coins, and I, personally like them. Don't like them? Don't buy them--I dislike Fords, so I buy Hondas. Matter of personal taste, and the analogy holds.
Just don't buy a Nissan. Those creeps sold me one and the entire driver's side was repainted! Purchased new!
"Over-printing SOMETHING on a Picasso print?" If you're going to use this as a comparison, shouldn't it be "over-print the SAME Picasso print on a Picasso print and pawn it off only by adding a "P" before the Picasso? Like I said, every time something is posted about your non-coins, I will argue in opposition to them. If nothing else, the more time you spend responding to those of us who disagree with you, the less time you have to make them. Chris
