Found this guy today, and I was wondering the best way to deal with the reverse...any ideas? I think it might be gum and paper...idk. 1984ddo.JPG 1984ddo.png KIMG1245.JPG

I've kept a pencil behind my ear but never gum.

if you had a double ear, you could keep both :)

acetone? That's what I would use but I rarely ever clean a coin.

Should i just leave it? and does nail polish remover have other ingredients other then acetone? I'm thinking about joining PCGS and sending in some of my Cents...I would hate to think that gook will stay on this guy forever.

Don't use nail polish remover! It's diluted with other things. If you're going to clean it, use pure acetone. There are some threads with how to clean properly. Also, I believe some of the TPGs have restoration capabilities. I don't know the costs on that one.

What do you think it would get graded, 63ish?

I think it might just be a sticker...I picked at it with my finger nail, and it wants to come off. So, besides exposing the reverse area to oxidation, etc...would you guys try to pick it off? Also soak it in water? or no? that might help it come right off..

I'd first try mild soap and water. Let it just soak in it for a few hours. After that if there is still glue residue, then 100% pure acetone. Let it soak in that over night.

You can buy 100% pure acetone in the nail care isle at Wallmart. It's less expensive than buying a bigger can of it. Just make sure it is labeled 100% pure.

I cant find one with such dramatic doubling, looking at the chin and bow tie. Any good references?

Not sure if vegetable oil will hurt a coin, but it's supposed to be good for getting stickers off. Use a Q-tip to dab it on the sticker and let it sit for while to soak through, then see if you can remove it.

It came off in a 5 second acetone bath. I thought this was the updated post...

Congratulations! Great find! Been looking for one for a while, no luck yet. Not a lot of philly coins here near Denver though.
