My Gardner is absconding make sure you tie him up first. He will be going straight to the palace dungeon
It's a lot, but I will make a profit, even after all the expenses. I should have my coins in-hand this week.
Picked up my 5 sets this morning at the post office, went home, took pics, listed them, and sold 2 of the PR70 3 coin sets for $551.70 within 5 minutes of them being listed. I did not allow for returns. After shipping and fees that nets me $496, or $82.66 per coin. I am invested in them at $46.53 per coin, so with 3 sets left, I'd say I'm doing pretty good! Nearly in the black with 3 sets left!
So the big question what to do with the other three sets? Sell them now or wait and see if the price goes up....or down?
They are listed as individual coins as buyitnow. I may auction a couple in a week if they haven't sold, just to see.
The results are posted above. Page 4, I think. I got 11 PR70's and 4 PR69's. Unfortunately 3 of the 4 PR69's I got were the reverse proof dime.
Ok, just sold one of the Dollars in PF70 for $87.95 and a reverse proof dime in PF69 for $87.95. After fees and shipping that nets me $158.31. So I've sold 8 of the 15 coins for a net of $654.31. That essentially makes the remaining 7 coins 100% pure profit. I'm officially $5 or $6 away from breaking even on this deal, with 7 coins left. Where are the naysayers?!?
keep your numbers, your total cost numbers and look at the selling price one year 3 year and 5 years out, you will understand where the naysayers are coming from. what you have done is coin flipping and some money can be made with a limited amount of sets but if you had acquired 5000 sets do you believe you would have doubled your money? if you do then you might be on to something but conventional wisdom suggests otherwise. I have consulted for a lot of businesses in the numismatic industry and 9 out of 10 people coudnt make money on moderns you might be the 10th guy. you might continue to make money but the average guy wont. Nothing succeeds like success but exceptions dont disprove the rule that modern coins are a very poor investment. Dont believe me? just look up the table on coins about.com for modern commems and proof sets. If that doesnt convince people nothing will.
