Well, I went to the link you supplied @Jwt708. Northwest Territorial Mint had a couple coins of bases I went TDY to, but, not my home base. No command for the 27th Tactical Fighter Wing. And I was really hoping to find one of the aircraft I worked on. I would love to have a coin that said "Whispering Death" nickname of F-111's. Do you have anymore links to items like this?
I don't know if this qualifies as a challenge coin or not. It's the closest thing I have from back in the day. Team Spirit 1985; Pusan, South Korea.
I would say it is. Did you get that from the president of the RoK? If so, I would love to hear the story.
I received this one working on the Falcon Hill Project here in northern Utah. Not as cool as the other coins out there but its mine and was well deserved.
Its a long story. Basically I work for the state UDOT and was the project manager that relocated the western gate to improve access both on and off of the base.
I don't know who gave them out @Jwt708. It probably was the governor of the province we were in, because, I have a banner from him also. I wasn't there for the ceremony. We were part of the launch and recovery crew for the jets we deployed with. We had to do a Pacific island hop to get over to Korea. Just so happens one of the planes had an engine malfunction while we were on Hickam AFB. We had to wait for the new engine to come from England. That took a week, real bummer there. Then a plane broke down in Guam. Had an interesting conversation with some Navy Seals about Nicaragua while on Guam. They had been casualties of that skirmish. Then we went to Korea. Took 10 days from the time we left base in NM to get to Korea. None of the planes broke down on the return flight.
Not sure how I missed this @gronnh20 but let me look around, maybe I'll find one. Meant to put this one up Monday... I posted this one back in Dec 2012
Here's my latest "challenge coin." These have been newly minted for 2015, from the 100 Maintenance Squadron (MXS), RAF Mildenhall.
