While I do respect everyone's choice as to their collectible interests, the same logic (as stated above) could also be used for any knock-off or straight counterfeit, so where to draw the line?

As for Mr. Carr being "the best", please remember who the competition is; such a statement might not be as flattering as intended.

As stated before, his coins are no more counterfeit than any minted silver coin sold by the private mints in the US. I am totally against counterfeiting of any coin that is or was legal tender at one time, or was done with deception in mind. These were never marketed as or had intentions of being marketed as real.

Exactly. If Dan Carr were making fakes of coins that actually existed, I'd be at the front of the pitchforks and torches mob. But, he doesn't. He overstrikes genuine coins (not illegal) to create fantasy numismatic items that never were. And, he's an artist.

Do people think of Weird Al as a counterfeiter?

Are there slots made for these two dates in a Dansco?

on page 1 of this thread I posted a 1964-D By Daniel Carr in an ANACS holder if you look you will see it's slabed as a 1964-D TOKEN

If these coins are "legal tender" then they are counterfeit coins.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

I love Amish Paradise. It's my place, and they are my people. ;) By the way, love and have a few of Carr's Amero coins. I like to tweak the noses of conspiracy theorists with them. The ultra right-wing wackos get all worked up when they see "actual proof" of the "North American Union" plan right in their slightly grimy and oily (from touching their own hair, apparently) hands.

A Peace dollar set is no less complete omitting the Dan Carr overstrike fantasies than it is by omitting the Mel Wacks Begin/Sadat/Carter counterstamped coin. I'll go one step further in that if you don't consider your collection complete without the Carr pieces, I won't consider it complete until you have the Wacks piece.

    No.
Someone using modern technology to copy the real artists designs for the purpose of lining his own pockets is not an artist. There are better names.
Augustus St.Gaudins and James Earle Fraser are rolling in their graves.

He does much more than fantasy restrikes. He does original designs as well. In fact, he designed the reverses chosen by the Mint for the New York and Rhode Island state quarters.

If I remember correctly he submitted his designs to the mint unsolicited and his designs were chosen over all the others.

It's not worth it, DF. If you haven't yet noticed, this isn't a subject most are willing to logically discuss; deflection and excuses reign supreme here andit's not hard to understand why. When someone throws out the "collectible" card when presented with an example of a Chinese made Morgan counterfeit, oops, "fantasy piece", or feels the need to harp on the "over-struck" issue, it should tell you much about who it is they're really trying to convince. When walking such a fine line, justification is all that matters.

Actually, they're not 'fantasy coins.' They're counterfeits. Just because most of us here are smart enough to see through this scam doesn't mean it isn't deceptive. Where does it say 'COPY' as required by law.
