Indeed. I'm always on the lookout for accent pieces for my collection. I considered buying a top 4 TPG certified unstruck commemorative silver dollar planchet to go along with my commems. It was reasonably priced, but the thing that held me back was that there's no provenance to it beyond the TPG label, and I have no idea how they'd even come to the determination that it was a commem planchet.

I think Carr's fantasy pieces are great. His Ameros and club medals are great. His golden dollar prototypes are great. I think they're all worthy collectibles. But the one that I really drool over is the 64 Peace dollar. :) When I get around to collecting Peace dollars, I imagine I'll get a Dan Carr 64 to go with them.

    I see a price of $144, not $244.

Do you feel the same way about hobo nickels or counterstamped coins?

If there are no "Real Ones", how can there be "Fake Ones"?

There were "real" 64D $$ but supposedly all were melted.

Do you believe an example of the infamous "1903-CC Morgan" would "enhance" that set as well? Just curious if this is an honor reserved only for Mr. Carr or anyone that copies a design.

    $144, $244, $44, whatever.... IMO any American coins that aren't made by the U.S. mint = FAKES!

There are many reasons for things to be deemed collectable. Mockery is one of them. Daniel Carr just happend to be the best at it.

So he is the best counterfeiter in modern time?

To each his own, but I'd feel kinda slimy having a fantasy piece as part of my set. I'd maybe collect it as a curiosity, but nothing more.

He's not a counterfeiter or a forger. These pieces (even 64D) are not intended to fool anybody. He even publishes diagnostics for every die pair. Counterfeiters don't do that.

And they are over struck on authentic Peace dollars, unlike the Chinese.

I completely agree, I would gladly pay the price on a fake '64 and '65 Peace Dollar, having a rendering of what could've been, all too cool for me.

Will the TPGs slab his coins as genuine?
