Now this is just really ridiculous! Someone on Ebay is selling this NGC slabbed Jefferson 5C Bowtie Clip Error for $500.00 ... I don't know how the seller came up with that price but Fred Weinberg had them listed a few times and I picked one up for just $23.75 - again just to add to my Error/Variety collection for educational purposes. Anyone else know of Slabs or raw coins that are Super Duper overpriced??? I want to share this link with you - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jefferson-5...080?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20fb9b43a0
How does NGC know that it is a clip? I'm guessing that any metallurgist could make them. Maybe it was submitted in an unopened Mint bag! In any event, I'm guessing that some sucker will appear when the price drops below $250. Chris
True.. This is part of a huge Bow Tie Clip set that was slabbed. The coin in question is #293. I have #290. There are 465 clips in this set. They have 25C bowtie clips also. I might be wrong but I think Fred Weinberg himself sent all of them to get certified by NGC. Just like he did with some other sets such as the 2002 50C Kennedy Small Collar Die Break set.
If this is nickel scrap then it's still not much of an error. This scrap or "chopped webbing" is sent out to be recycled. There is little or no security involved once it leaves the Mint.
