Is this an rpd? 1889 indian head cent

    I found this and was just wondering if anyone else saw anything in the lower loop of the second 8. All help appreciated thanks.[​IMG][​IMG]

    Yes it is an rpd , the 1 both 8 ' s as well as the 9 all are repunched .

    There's one in cpg that's close but not the one you have. Since the cpg is so out dated on newer finds maybe someone who has a Snow may be of more help.
    Take a look at the 1 's foot as well as both 8 ' s and the 9 inside the loop and tail.

    Is that a die crack near the m?

    There is a die crack that I see running from the right foot of the 1 through the bottom of the 8's

    Check the denticals below the 9 also I got the image blown up but can't see it good enough .

    Ok when you in large the image it distorts so that said I was not sure if there was or wasn't anything there.

    There's also a ddr for this date,however your's is not. You could see the oak leaves and acorns on the right side doubled if it was.

    Snow list 38 different ones. None of them match from what I can see in your image.

    Does that mean its a new variety?

    I don't know. All I can see in the image is something in the lower loop of the second 8.

    There's a lot of crud in the numbers. Some of mine I did a dip. I will not suggest you do the same as I can't promise an out come. That's your call. But I do see items as I have stated. Could it be a new variety ? To my knowledge yes it could. But only research can answer that question for sure.
