I went to a store I usually don't go to and checked the non-Coinstar coin counter's chute. I pulled a handful of change out of there: a nickel and about ten pennies. I looked them over and I'll be damned if 3 of them weren't wheats: a 1936, a 1940-S and a 1941. The rest of the coins were zinc pennies and a ugly current design nickel so I left them on top of the machine. This makes 5 wheats that I've found in the last couple of weeks.
Nice finds!! I have yet to make a decent find from any of the coin counting machines. The only ones that have ever treated me right are from the ones behind the counter at the bank.
Got a pile of mostly foreign small change at my bank's coin counter today: 2 clad Roosevelt dimes 5 Lincoln pennies (1919 + 4 Memorials) 1 Canadian dime (1976) 3 Euro 1 cent 2 Euro 2 cent 4 Euro 5 cent 2 UK pennies (1979, 1999) 4 Malaysia "1 Sen" 2 Malaysia "5 Sen" 1 Malaysia "10 Sen" Oh, and these little fellas. The silver colored one might be Croatia? Not sure about the little ones. Cyrillic writing on them and "10 Koneek" (best attempt at replicating those letters on my keyboard)
The reject tube is usually below where you put the coins in the machine Charlie. Like in a bill changer.
Grabbed a couple of handfuls of change out of a reject slot earlier today - it's mostly low-value foreign coins (lots of Euro 1 cent, 2 cent, and 5 cent), Peruvian 1 centimo and 10 centimos... about 60 cents in insignificant US change, 40 cents in Canadian. Best in the bunch was a 1983 UK 1 pound (1st year of issue), a coin from United Arab Emirates (never seen one before), 3x Mexico $1, and an obsolete MBTA (Boston) subway token.
Well, I decided to check some CoinStar machines, for the first time. There are 4 in my city. first one; nada 2nd one; OMG 32.12 in US coin, including a 1940D nickel and a dateless SLQ. 4 Euro (1,2,5) cent coins 2 Canadian pennies Some Great Britian Pence Dominican 10 centavos and 1 gaming token 1 dime each on the last 2 machines I know this is beginner's luck.. Boy, am I hooked...
