hi everyone - i was looking for some input. i was thinking about selling all 5 sets of the march of dimes set that came out a few days ago. i just got it today and haven't opened it. the reservations i have is if i sell a mint sealed box, would/could a seller come back and file a claim after they open it? the claim could be whatever (missing set, damaged, etc) and cherry pick the sets and send me back either a missing set or an opened set with their bad coins. so my questions ultimately is: if i decide to sell - should i open the box so i know exactly what i am selling (and in what condition) or blindly sell a sealed box?
I'm currently selling mine unopened. I've done similar eBay sales like that before with never a problem. I started it with an opening bid of $550, and now with only a day or two left, no bids. I fully expected a "sold out" designation by now, but it's still "back order"! Geeze, I dunno, may have to relist it lower.....
Well, fives have sold for 449, 450 (4x), 465 (2x), 469, 475, 476, 477, 479 (2x), 480, 485, 489 (2x), 495, 499 (2x), 500 and 525 3s at 270, 275, 295 2s at 175 (2x), 182 1s at 105 Guess you are just over the market price at 550
Seems like you are still unsure if you want to sell them all. Decide that first. If I was going to buy an unopened box of 5 on eBay for a significant premium, I would probably be doing so to send it off unopened to get graded. I cannot imagine someone coming back to you complaining about grades in that situation. If they open it, they can claim anything plus they have your info on the receipt inside the box. Be sure to be very clear in your description regardless of what you decide. TC
So you just got them and you got tired of collecting them already? Lol. These are the coins on the century!
God Awful John! That avatar is most scary indeed. Tarry not with moderns and remain in the ancient realm.......It is your forte most unique.
There was a case a few years ago of a PCGS board member selling an unopened, First Strike designation eligible set of platinum bullion coins on ebay and the buyer opened the set and returned it for refund. Even though the seller sold it "as is" without any option for refund, ebay and PayPal froze his account and refunded the buyer. The seller then received back his opened box and what might or might not have been the coins inside the box. Essentially, the First Strike liquidity and value was destroyed and he may have had his coins switched by someone unhappy with lower quality coins. Beware.
I'll just set them up, and you knock them down, lol. Do you know what's really scary, though? You might be right. I ever tell you about the friend of mine who collects art? He has an original Picasso sketch hanging in his library he paid dearly for. I'm afraid to tell him it's hanging upside-down. Now there's an art collector. Enough said on what I think of these collectors conceiving of these dimes in this special mint set as the coins of the century.
the market is very saturated and going down. The window is nearly closed for profit for now. mine are sitting for now I will keep the dimes and dump the dollars at some point.
71,114 sold, order limit now removed. These will sell out today, and prices will increase. If your order is backlisted, you may want to buy now before prices increase after sell out.
I'm all for hoop dreams and capitalism... just sounds like the cat is out of the bag on this one. I can only imagine 5,000 eBay sellers all price setting based on one another.... "Hey look he wants $500 for his set... I must be able to get $515 a set", and the vicious over-pricing cycle goes on and a few fish get swallowed up in bad buying decisions.
