That 1988 Gold $5 Eagle is very nice. I have a couple of silver Eagles for 1986, Been looking for a 1987 or 1988 dated coin in a Rattler for my set. As I consider these to be current dated coins for the rattler series. Yours is the first 1988 dated coin I have seen in a rattler. I have not seen a 1987 dated coin out there but there must be some and one day I will be in the right place and time to buy them.
There are rattler boxes that hold 20 coins for sale out there. I have 8 of them. I have seen a double row rattler box that I wish I had bought as I have never seen another one of them. Just at the time I thought the price was to high, today I would pay triple that price for it. Also I like the green label slab. (OGH's) Old Green Holders
Well I hope you keep them since a single row rattler box is up to $75 on eBay now. I won't pay that though. But I do watch them. Don't know how high bidding would go for the double row box.
I don't think there are any Rattler boxes up for sale tonight but I do rattler searches all the time and they do come up at a BIN price and sell.
I got PCGS TrueView to shoot this through the slab, so I didn't have to lose my OGH. Amazing through-the-plastic photo!
The sad thing about Saints is that there not much spread in price between MS60-64. ..IMO it is still the most beautiful coin ever minted.
Okay, I gotta question relevant to these slabs. Do you think it's smarter to crack out coins from the rattlers and resend them in? Or do you think they have more value because they are in the first style of pcgs holders? I would think that it depends on if the coin looks like it would grade higher, and chances are it would since these seemed to have been more conservatively graded. Let's say there's a chance of increasing value by 50-100. Is this a good time to crack out? Or is it better to leave it in and not take chances and destroy a rattler holder
IMO, not for $100 b/c the grading fee cost what? $25? ..I got lucky with this one ..from a PR64 to a PR66.
Even after a 2 point upgrade it is still worth $300 less than what I paid in the mid 90's for the coin...
Oh. That sucks. I guess that will be a keeper then for quite a while. But I'm sure that's okay owning something that splendid
