image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg I came across this coin on eBay . It is labeled as AU but it's hard to tell from the photos . It does look to be in the EF /AU range. The seller says that the coin was labeled as AU when he bought it back in the 70s and its image.jpg been in his safe since. What do u guys think ?

I think I'd ask the seller to send you a photo that's in focus, and then we'll be able to help a lot better. :)

The seller is a older gentleman so these are the best photos I can get . I believe this coin is around 25 in EF and 70 AU . I can get the coin for close to EF price so if it wasn't AU it wouldnt hurt that bad. But I just wanted to see what you guys thought and if you think it would be worth taking a chance on.

It is an AU witho9ut luster, therefore I'd go no higher than XF-45.

Still a decent looking coin, from what I can see.

I would assume it's an XF and bid accordingly.

I believe I can get the coin for about 25bucks. So if its EF than I've paid full price but if it's at least AU 50 than it would be a great deal. The coin doesn't appear to have been cleaned or damaged. I think I can see a small amount of luster on the reverse around the word ONE and right above it.

I noticed that too. Hard to say from these photos though. If you knew that it was an XF, would you buy it at that price?

If I knew it was EF than I really wouldn't wanna pay 25. I guess this would be a gamble. I have had fairly good luck getting nice coins for a good price just because the photos arnt great. That may not be the case with this coin. So that's really what I'm asking would you guys take the gamble ?

Does the seller have good feedback? Return policy? Any red flags?

The sellers feedback is 100 percent. Top rated seller. He does has in his listings that he will not grade coins . That any of the coins that have a grade were like that when he purchased them 30 years ago.

image.jpg image.jpg I added these two coin to my watch list. There ending in the next few hours as of now the bids are in the 15 dollar range. If I can get one or both of these for under 25 Each if not I'm going to do as you said and take a chance on the 1907 barber. As I believe these may be better buys if I can get them around the price of the 1907. image.jpg image.jpg

The first coin looks like a nice EF, the next two are awful.

Thanks for posting Tom. I didn't buy any of these coins . The two you said where awful end up going in the 30 dollar range so I was outbid . I guess that was a good thing. I bought the 1900 dime that you also commented on and now I'm thinking that wasnt such a good move. Maybe I will catch a break and the coin will look at lot better in hand.

I've bought raw coins like that, sometimes doing okay, sometimes not. I've come to the conclusion that I won't buy any coin raw now on ebay unless the pics are very clear and the seller is reputable. I'd much rather but a coin like that at a coin show where I can sit with it under good light and take my time. I even feel rushed at my local shop so I wouldn't buy much there either. I think you'll come to this same conclusion after getting burned enough times

I agree with what your saying. In my case unfortunately I don't know of a coin shop with in a 100 miles. There are from time to time a person at local flea markets with coins but there most always over priced and in most cases really over priced. Therefore eBay is really my only option to buy coins. I have been burned a few times . Then again I've got some great deals aswell. The coin in my other post the 1900 dime that a lot of people say looks cleaned or dipped and it very well may be . My opinion is it would be nearly Inpossible to say for sure from the photos .

That makes sense. Over here in southern CA there's a lot of shops and other places, so I can only imagine how it is where you are

By the way, I picked this one up about a year ago for 20-25 I think on ebay. Then I put it in this nice holder image.jpg image.jpg

The biggest problem with my coin is the impaired luster on both sides. The peripheral fields are good and a small cartwheel effect almost takes place, but the majority of the fields have been dipped or something too much. No hairlines visible to the naked eye. The next big problem is that nasty scrape on the neck. In any case, I'm glad to own it and I hope you are glad with your purchase too.

That's still yet a really nice coin. I mainly collect barber dimes. It is tough to get really nice raw coins from eBay as your having to judge from a photo. Most of the time one that's not that clear . I wish I did have better options for buying . I do get lucky some times and like you said I have been burned as well. I try to deal with sellers I've bought from in the past that have done me right . I guess anytime you are judging if a coins been cleaned, damaged , ect from a photo your taking a chance.
