Good afternoon, I am new to this forum but have just stumbled upon a penny that was struck on one side leaving the other side blank. Just curious if there is any extra value to it and if there is a market. Here are some pics of it.

Looks like it met a grinder/sandpaper somewhere. Post strike damage.

I knew it before I even looked at it! No upset rim on the reverse. PMD!

I made those as a kid. I would rub them on the pavement while waiting on the school bus.

Hello Cody. As the others stated this is simply PMD - Post Mint Damage. When a Cent is being milled, that means struck, there has to be a certain amount of pressure on both the Obverse and the Reverse sides of the blank planchet that is between the 2 dies. It would be impossible to only have just one side struck and not the other as your coin in question. I agree with the Reverse being grinded down.

As Al Bundy's Love and Marriage song goes, you can't have one side without the other.

I know what you are saying, but this isn't 100% true. You CAN have a full indent error, which results in a full uniface strike. See here: http://www.error-ref.com/full-uniface-strike/

That being said, this coin isn't a full indent.

OK. So I'm not 100% right :yack: - I knew of the Full Uniface Strike since I'm always referring to error-ref.com website. I just didn't want to complicate things since the Cent in question is clearly a PMD. It is very rare for this to occur though. Next time I will reference Full Uniface Strike - Definition: Occurs when a planchet is perfectly centered over another planchet or coin and the two are struck together.. You happy now ;)

Almost impossible to only strike one side of a coin.
Easier to hit the Powerball in relation to how many coins are minted.
Photos and weight required. And not blurry phone photos.

You put the photo in a .jpeg ( jpg) format and know where the file is on your computer. Then put the text in your post and click on the "upload a file" button at the bottom of your textbox. Then find the file , click on it and it will be uploaded.
