Reverse proof presidential dollars!

  1. Someone will try to get a large number of these and corner the market. I would be OK with one. I agree that 17K is low, but demand for this series is abysmal. Should be interesting. TC

Yep, we should be getting that email any day now from that dealer that wants to buy thousands of sets, asking us to buy for them.

HEY U.S. MINT!!! You can sell about 50,000 of each of these presidential sets! Don't shoot your own profits and collectors in the foot by allowing a few big dealers to grab only 17,000 of them.

I dunno, with only 17,000 these could be the most newest "coins of the century".

Yeah, what's next? I still say, if they want to screw us all, issue a coin with a mintage of 1 and auction it off.

Next unique coin will be a regular Proof on the Obverse and a Reverse Proof on the Reverse side. :greedy:

Modern coin collectors should be concerned by the Mint's gimmicky productions. It is becoming increasingly cost prohibitive to obtain one of every Mint product, so many are giving up on them all together. This is exactly what USPS did to help kill the postage stamp hobby.

Do you really want the Mint to flood the market and decrease the value of the pieces?

It would be nice without the silver medal and just another paper money for the price of 15.00 buck rather than 50 some dollars. The Mint is killing us with all these low mintage and the high price tag. Not sure about getting any right now. I might ge the Kennedy only.

I think the Mint should just stop producing all these special sets and just keep the Mint and the Proof sets and make them special finish and low mintage. This will get everyone back into just collecting them.

True, but as long as they're giving us keys to series and not undermining these keys with subsequent issues, I don't mind. We'll see how carried away they get.

Yeah, I can live with the value of a 50k issue and not have to kill to get one at 17k. At 17k, if anything stalls during ordering, you'll miss out.

  14. Below is an old link from 2014, but it looks like the Mint has plans to issue a Reverse Proof set in 2015. What is unclear in the details is whether it will be a silver or clad set. It almost has to be clad since they have already said that the RP dime in the March of Dimes Special Silver Set is unique to that set. Either way the 2015 Presidential dollars should be in this RP set, so they will not be unique to their 2015 Coin & Chronicles set. This makes the 17K (and 25K for Kennedy) C&C mintages more reasonable.

I agree, the overproduction of special sets has a dilutive effect on prices. The mint will most likely continue producing until people quit buying, and that probably is not going to happen. Even if they make a profit on sets, percentage wise, it probably adds little to their overall budget.
