    Yeah....I don't get it with first strikes or special coin show slabbed labels either. There are doing this type of marketing in the comic book realm too with CGC and commanding higher premiums on comic show slabbed books as if they are somehow worth more because they were encased at a show? SMH :inpain:

    First Strikes became coveted long ago, when the mint was not so sophisticated, and only the first strikes had the true frosted cameo appearance. The dies quickly wore and most proofs were just super shiny. Nowadays, frosted proof is expected in any proof coin. I doubt there is any visible difference.

    Gimmick. I would not pay more for first strike. It's just a label not a better coin.

    If I remember correctly, this went all the way to the courts... something about "First Strike" versus "First Issue" or something or the other. I think the ones that marketed "First Strike" won. But don't quote me on that. :oops:

    Someone sued PCGS and NGC over it.NGC settled with the guy and agreed to go to Early Release to make him go away, PCGS just ignored him and it eventually went away. I don't know if the guy dropped the case or if the court threw it out

    The NGC group of companies is now grading old concert posters and tickets and encasing them in clear holders to increase their resale value too.

    Love to know how much money that guy got from NGC.

    Let me just tell you that First Strikes are extremely rare and by their definition a limited edition. I personally recommend you buy as many as you can. Remember, these will never be made again. Plus, I can't get rich selling this crap, if you don't buy them from me.

    @jtlee321 , Great post.

    I wonder how he feels knowing he's being made a fool on coin boards. Yeah, he's laughing all the way to the bank, but IMO, I get the impression he's most interested in himself and his image. The money is secondary.

    And for the first 10,000,000, for a limited time only, while supplies last, we're going to give away free balloons!

    The TV coin guy sells mostly ANACS and ICG First Day of Issue coins, not First Strikes. Those FDOI are numbered limited editions, very rare, never to be made again. Some even come with the first day of timber solid red oak presentation boxes.

    Oh boy! Gold plated quarters! Lets see, at $1200 and ounce the whole set contains 23 cents in REAL 10k gold! The perfect size to cover the bathroom drain, or clog the toilet! Just imagine the look on your kids faces when they discover you were suckered into spending their inheritance on this crap! Yow! For your funeral, all your heirs can afford is to wrap you in an old carpet, put you out behind in the alley and let the thugs do god knows what with you!

    Aw, come on. folks.

    Can't a guy make a dishonest living anymore?

    Sheesh, I gotta dump this garbage, and you all make me look silly.

    @Treashunt we are not trying to make you look silly. We are just showing you that these "First Strike", "Early Release", "Limited Edition", etc... etc... is just a money making gimmick for nobody but the person originally selling them. They target the grandparents looking to buy for their grandchildren and anyone else who may be uneducated in the hobby.
