nice lookin' new probi M...and everyone else. i only have two probus coins, this is the better of them.
We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art last weekend. There was one Probus example on this coin board. Most all items on display at the Met were fantastic but this one little Probus was rather blah. Here is my only Probus coin:
Added an EQVITI coin to my collection. Probus Antoninianus Obv:– IMP C PROBVS AVG, Radiate bust left in imperial mantle, holding sceptre surmounted by eagle Rev:– MARTI PACIF, Mars walking left, holding olive-branch, spear and shield Minted in Ticinium (I | * / QXXI), Emission 10, Officina 4. A.D. 282 Reference(s) – RIC 508 Bust type H Part of EQVITI series II (I) Some die clogging in the obverse legend, a nice amount of silvering remaining.
PROBUS Antoninianus OBVERSE: IMP PROBVS P F AVG, radiate cuirassed bust right REVERSE: ADVENTVS AVG, Probus on horseback left, holding sceptre & right hand held high in return salute; at left, under hoof, a captive looks on, R-thunderbolt-Z in ex. Struck at Rome, 279 AD 3.3g, 21mm RIC 155
It has been a month since the last post of the member who started this thread. I hope we did not scare him off with all the posts of non-EQVITI coins. We do have a tendency to post what we want rather than what fits and it is a rare post that does not get stolen by the time it leaves page two. I was really into the series and filled the Ticinum set but never made any effort to finish Rome or even remember which ones I still need. I stopped buying Probus in general perhaps mostly because the ones I really want are getting ridiculously expensive and I have a representative sampling of the common ones. I'll have to put these on my list of things to add to my want list when it gets short enough that it fits on paper. This will be a bad week. I already have won one coin (not yet arrived) and have a couple more closing soon. I have a coin show Friday. My wife won't be back from her river cruise on the Rhine until all my expensive days have passed. As long as I spend less than she did on the cruise, I'm OK.
=> my wife is currently in Winnipeg for the weekend (ummm, that's kinda like a cruise on the Rhine?!!) ... regardless, our goals are similar: => "As long as I spend less than she did on the weekend, I'm OK" (*yikes*) => man, I love it when it hits page two!!
Holy Smokes => I wanna hear more about that fancy $5000 bed (is it kinda like a self-propelled sex-unit, or what?) Man, my lousy bed cost $500
This enormous wrought-iron thing with with a stack of ultra primo mattresses. It really is lovely to sleep in.
You seem to have more expensive tastes than I do when it comes to aureii. There are plenty of coins in the 3K-5K range that I find attractive. But this is all wishful thinking, so I may as well upgrade my standards.
My wife doesn't stop me from buying coins, but she hardly spends anything on herself, so I'm given no excuse to buy coins and can find no relief from guilt when I do anyway. Again, this thread seems to have gone off the rails... sorry, Martin.
You are right but I think I'll upgrade my want to this one at $150k http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1390285 No! Why go half way? This was only $550k. http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=673357 That would get you a relatively nice bed room (and surrounding house in some places).
