I found this metal detecting today and I'm curious how these bubbles got in a solid silver coin. It looks like there are fractures on the surface of the bubbles. Weird. any thoughts? This coin isn't terrible condition I can't even get a date off of it
That's what a silver quarter looks like cooked by a blow torch! Heated until red hot and improperly cooled.
Looks like a silver-plated counterfeit. The corroding copper core is blistering through the silver plate.
Where was it found? If in a large clearing, then most likely it was thrown, dropped, into a fire and allowed to heat to a high enough temperature to cause the damage. It reminds me of pictures of coins found after the Paradise fire in California.
Either heat or exposed to some type of construction equipment. We too find a lot in the grassy sidewalk patches...
Ooooh My!! What a crying shame. @Derwood . Don't forget to hit the old parade routes and Town greens also. If you can.
