No, I disagree with myself on a regular basis especially when I discover that I have been maintaining an untenable position. On average over the years I'm lucky to feel I made the right decision half of the time and my wife will back me up on that number as an absolute maximum.
You are a lucky man Doug. My wife just called me stupid and she almost always thinks I'm wrong. Of course, I would never argue with HER wise counsel.
here's a coin i picked up in a lot a couple years ago in an uncleaned lot, only cost me about a 3 bucks i suppose. i was 50/50 at the time. it was actually the first coin i posted here at cointalk. can't find my reverse pic, not worth reshooting really. i'm now 99.5 % sure it is a modern fantasy piece. surfaces are strange, weight is way off, doesn't quite match any known coin, feels weird in hand even. here's my original post... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/unknown-christ-coin.218955/#post-1593314
Yah, that's Argos, Odysseus's faithful old dog and namesake of the city. He waited 20 years for his master to return from his travels, and when he did, the poor old dog wagged his tail and gave up the ghost. I had this type on my want list before this one popped up unexpectedly in a mixed lot.
Yah, I love that myth (what a sweet ol' hound, eh? .... makes me happy-sad for my awesome, loyal dogs) Argos rocks!! (cheers to Buster & Larry)
Thanks, everyone. While I'm not bothered not knowing definitively if the coin is real or fake, I still count all your opinions as valuable. Two of the posters on the Forvm thread who thought it may be a cast fake were, I believe, knowledgeable dealers, but of course, I'm the only one with the coin in hand. I'm mindful of the fact that any opinions, including those thinking the coin is real, might very well change on closer inspection.
=> well, I guess it only really matters if it comes time to sell the poor ol' gal, right? (otherwise, who cares => it's cool) ... but if you're really torn, then spend another $50 and send it off to get it authenticated ...
