Picked this one up yesterday here are a few images. I'm seeing some numbers in the denticles. Plus the die break through the date. Just wanted some feed back from the forum. Thanks
I look a lot for IHC MPDs. Whenever I see raised metal that stands out from the denticles, I also wonder if they're MPDs--because it is possible. And MPDs come in all levels of "obviousness". There are MPDs called by Snow that I couldn't call myself--but still do make sense because of a bulge where one shouldn't be. And more IHCs MPDs are being discovered and catalogued all the time--unbelievable as that sounds after 100+ years! So far, there are no catalogued MPDs for 1864 IHCs of any type--but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Seeing the area against the date helps as does a few lighting angles--I've seen dramatic difference in what appears when I light differently. I do see something in the denticles--but more pictures will help.
Paddy, I'm sorry to say this...but I think your coin has just sustained a hit which looks very similar to the Snow-5 MPD. However, the actual MPD spans 3 denticles with one under the "bridge" the 0 makes. The date position is slightly different too...bummer.
Dunno...the MPD just isn't shaped right, and the date position is different too--the big markers. I can also see the hit in the middle of the mark, which resembles the point of an old-style, square nail. That's my opinion, for what it's worth.
