Browsing the change machines at work I saw this silver edged coin. I was expecting to find a Canadian quarter but was shocked that it was a 2002 Indiana quarter. Is this a planchet error missing the copper layer? I don't see any copper color showing on this coin.

I don't see anything unusual about your coin it;s just been through circulation and took a toll ,and it;s not a missing clad layer coin sorry

Heres the coin compared to another quarter, it doesn't have the copper layer.

In my opinion that means that something was added to the coin like plating. A heavy metal plating of platinum or silver would add a little weight which is what we see here. If it weighed less you might have had something, but more is usually indicative of plating.

    That is my guess.

2007 D Wyoming Quarter Planchet Error?

I work in vending and I found a 2007 D Wyoming quarter in a change machine that appears to be missing the copper on the edge as well. I'm wondering how common it is. I found a loose silver proof state quarter the same way but it is obviously silver and has an S mint.
There at least 2 such coins out there.

There are many thousands of these coins that have been plated and have a similar look. These coins were sold in sets to unknowing collectors and now as time goes by and people begin to spend them we see them from time to time.

On way to check it to find a letter on the coin and use a razor blade to make a scratch in the reeding on the edge of the coin. If you see copper, then it's been plated. If not, then you might like to look at it further. Making the scratch on the reeding would make the damage less distracting than making on of the faces.

Yes, with a tolerance of +/- .23 grams. So 5.9 grams is within tolerance for a plated normal state quarter.

    I have the same quarter

I have a 2002 Indiana State P minted quarter with the exact same thing. I have had it for some time because I have looked around and I couldn't find anything on it. Let me know the report on it because I have another one.

Well he sent it off back in 2009. Would have been nice for an update but I'm guessing it didn't come back as anything cool.
