Hey guys I'm looking to buy a fugio certified by one of the big 3-4 tpg... What's the difference between the 1787 original and the new haven restrike.. Cause the restrike loom freshly minted , any one willing to help me find a nice ms version certified
The New Haven restrikes are not true restrikes, more like fantasy pieces made in the 1850's. Mint state original Fugios are available due to a keg of the coins held by the Bank of New York for many years.
Lot's of places to find these, it all depends on what you want, just a type piece or do you want to collect by variety? What grade range are you interested in? I would also encourage you to look at un-certified examples. A lot of early copper collectors prefer raw coins, so a lot of these coins are sold raw.
I found one that is a new haven restrike it has planchet flaws I made a offer to buy it for 750 I got a rebuttal for 865... But its a uncirculated with details of planchette flaw
Suit yourself, but you are limiting your options considerable because you are the outlier in that preference for this series.
There's an f and vf example on heritage right now for under your price range. You might be able to pick one of those up
You won't be able to get an original in that condition for that much. I would also advise to buy an original. Much more historical value and probably better appreciation. Plus I think you would probably be happier with it. I know I would.
AU in the $900. range most will have Planchet flaws MS for $900. I don't think so only in restrikes I would only buy it slabed take you time on this one see whats out there first
Just a heads up on these while I'm thinking about it. If this is a type coin purchase you probably want to buy a common variety coin (R1 to maybe R3, stay away from R4 and R5+). There is a serious group of collectors who collect these by die variety, and there are quite a few rare varieties. Dealers often carry these rare varieties, but they sell for a significant premium over the more common coins. Hence you can find $600 fine fugio cents. In my opinion, fugio cents are the type of coins which take a bit of patience to buy. There is significant variation in the quality of the coin within grades, and it pays to take the time to find a nice one.
Me neither, in low AU I think $1500 is more in line for a common variety: http://coins.ha.com/itm/colonials/1...rays-au53-pcgs-n-13-x-w-6855-r2/a/1218-3328.s
