Dont get me wrong but im sure we would all like to have a mint condition specimen (some may have) but unless you pay for quality or are lucky in hunting which I cannot afford and definitely aint lucky,I appreciate the worn,torn,weird and wonderful.
I look at it this way,if we start at the top and get the best first then the only quality left would be worse.
I'd rather work my way up than down.Its more exciting.[emoji2]

 

Thanks. 1815 is a toughy. And it's probably VF30, but someone repaired the obverse. It wasn't a hole, as it doesn't go through, but someone worked her over pretty good, then cleaned it to "even out" the look.

 

About half of the whole collection I inherited from my grandfather is nothing but higher grade problem coins. Cleaned to pieces. Will post some pics when I can. Might try some of my magic on them since I can't really hurt them any more than they really are. This time, I will take before and after pics since no one believed my last thread about my coins i "fixed".

 

Great historical coin! I agree, somebody was probably already wanting to chop good ol' Louis XVI's head. Very unfortunate that decapitated him since he wasn't necessarily a bad person and that they ruined this beautiful ecu! Apart from the cuts, very nice details

 

Oddly enough my favorite coins are my problem coins.
1850 O gold dollar I bought off of my favorite old man coin dealer


1857 flying eagle unc details (which I disagree with), given to me from a family friend who had it for 30+ years




1838 O no stars dime and 1851 O three cent silver. I just like them.

 

See what I mean by how hard it is to tell? I mean, you could submit your coin to PCGS and the jerks would probably send it back in a "Genuine" slab. But then again, it might grade... So subjective a science is coin grading!

 

Russian 1895 50 kopeks.... If ever a whizz there was! Looks like someone used a shoe buffer on it.

 

Pretty cool, I'm guessing that was used on some kind of jewelry, what do you think??

 

I found this on the floor in the supermarket yesterday, this is the definition of problem coin .
