Question: have you ever been irked at a dealer? Ever felt like the guy could be a little more courteous or if you are ALWAYS in a hurry(time's precious)like me have you ever just said: forget this crap im outta here! Well Sunday at a show, I spotted a mercury dime in a case, i wasnt in love with the coin it was meh but i wanted a price.... Anyway, the man behind the table was 35-40ish and after I inspected said coin i said how much??? So he said ill hafta ask the owner of it, he's 1 table down and pointed. So i sorta mosey along and keep looking, and picked up some baseball cards that were in a bin and couldnt find a price there either. By the time I came to the area he pointed to(about 5 steps) I looked back at guy #1 and said which guy is it? He pointed again and the guy was in the aisle as was I looking at coins just like I was(which isnt unusual) and after a 30 second or so wait(i didnt want to interrupt) I turned to him(guy #2)and said how much for your mercury dime in the case(the only one) and I noticed guy#1 had it in his hand still as he could hear me ask so he held it up. The guy doesnt even look at me and says ill hafta check and turns back to the case of the dealer he was listening to talk about absoutely nothing important. There were no transactions taking place, the conversation was over and guy #2 wasnt even talking the whole time he was just listening being nosy. I know because at this point its already been about 5 mins my time involved in this. So i stood there sorta dumbfounded like guy#1 coulda tossed the coin to him or me thats how close they were. So me already past growing impatient says: well look man i dont have all day to stand around waiting on you, youre all done.Continued to the next aisle where i found good deal after good deal all in a timely manner. I did hafta wait on a guy to count a stack of 100s for a big brick of 999 fine silver lol which i dont mind waiting my turn for....... i just realized this turned into a short novel sorry. Your thoughts???
As quick as your reply was chris, i almost didnt click back to the page yet as i knew someone(well who else would it have been?) Was being a smart alec
I am always bothered by situations like this. I always wonder, do you want my money or not?? For just a merc, you would think they could at least throw out an estimate for you if the owner was busy. Bad customer service is always annoying.
If it sounds confusing its because it WAS! im still baffled by it. He was on the wrong side of his table and didnt bother to take the 5 steps get the coin and give me a price. The guy at his table was a son, a friend or a gopher. Not sure but u should shop and BS BEFORE and AFTER a show. The dime was a slabbed 38d 65FB i believe. So it wasnt like junk or anythimg. He bothered NOT to sell me a coin he was sorta engaged in conversation but not really as i didnt hear him talk. I asked a price he says ill hafta check and turned away from me like i wasnt important at all.
You can't compare all dealers to the trolls that sit at local shows every week. A lot of them remind me of flea market sellers, who many have very poor people skills as well.
Put it this way, i realize there are rules of etiquette at a show, wait your turn etc. But im not gonna wait around all day on a BS session with ur buddy. I got STUFF to do
Everytime i see you green, i cant help but think of the cincinnati bengals. There best player wears #18 and his last name is green oddly enough
Actually, cincy is by far the nicest town in ohio. I live in columbus but take trips there regularly. I pretty much knew ur handle had nothing to do with the bengals but being a fan of the team i had to mention it
It was a while ago now, but I once bought a slabbed Franklin half dollar and instead of the dealer handing it to me he threw it across the case after I paid him. It bounced and turned over a few times that's how hard he threw it. There was no reason for it either as he could of reached out and simply handed it to me. I remember that kinda pissing me off.
So thats why i keep finding all these broken slabs!!! Seems every other one has a corner cracked or missing in the back part where they lock together on pcgs coins... come to think of it, its not an issue with ngc or anacs. I wonder if they LIKE this issue with their slabs. Ya know like `we´ as consumers have to buy and replace enough household and car items every 4-5 years. The almighty pcgs wants us to reholder our coins too obviously as they have slabs with an issue that should have been `fixed´ by now. The dealers help them out by beat banging and clanging the slabs around from show to show
I had a dealer toss a coin of mine that was handed to him at a small show thrown back at me. I shot him a look and walked away. Little did he know whom I was, as I knew every dealer including the one whom sponsored the show who is a good friend. I made it clear if he was setting up at that show again I would take my business elsewhere . No matter how much you spend in advertising word of mouth will make you or break you. This dude got broke. He's very lucky that the Irish did not hit full boil! As we would of played Jail / Hospital ....
Ken wouldn't of been the first time. But I must admit the meatloaf at the county lock up on Wednesday's is pretty tasty.
