The amount is not high enough to mess around with shill bidding IMHO.

    Total bids: [IMG]525
    Items bid on: [IMG]130
Bid activity (%) with this seller: [IMG]2%
    Bid retractions: [IMG]22
    Bid retractions (6 months): [IMG]96

    Just another moron.

I say yes because after he determined what your max bid was, he retracted, and then bid one last time to make sure you paid what you did.

I say shill bid and you may want to cancel your bid if it isn't something dear to your heart.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks on eBay who do have common sense, even though they lack principles, and either engage rent-a-shills or run a farm of accounts to avoid the obvious "100% activity with this seller" flag.

I'm not sure what im going to do. I'm not upset with the final price, it was my max bid, but im just upset on the principle.

I'd be angry about the tactic too and cancel.

Bid activity of only 2% makes it rather unlikely that its a shill bid, still possible but unlikely.

It might be a shill bid, but I`ve seen something different a couple of times. An a*hole who already bid his max, checking out the max bid of the buyer who is about to win the lot, and bids accordingly to rise the price to the maximum, thus making the buyer "pay" for winning the lot. A revenge of sorts to punish someone who bid more than his maximum by rising the price.

Technically it is not a shill bid, if I understand the term correctly. True shill bidding helps out the seller maximize the sale, not punishing the highest bidder.

It sure looks like a shill.
I question why ebay allows a bidder to have that many bid retractions in a month (22). I've never retracted a bid and the only reason would be if I entered a bid with the decimal in the wrong place.
Do bidders actually make that many mistakes? Is there a legit reason to retract bids other than a mistake?

offer the seller a price you're happy with ,if he says no walk away.
you don't have to pay your last bid.And 22 retracted bids unaceptable.

Exactly. I normally put my bit in during the last 10 seconds, but I knew I would be busy when this auction ended so I put in my max bid early.

It's certainly an odd pattern. No way to prove more than stupidity on the part of the bidder, though....

The new eBay mobile app for android makes this kind of walk up a $1 bidding too easy. The bid of the increment is the big box and the data on current and whether you are winning or not is smaller and easy to overlook...

Speaking of retracted bids, I have a $4 raw mercury dime ending in a few hours and it had 4 bids and 29 retracted bids. What in the world???? For a $4 coin? I never saw retracted bids on my items until recently. Other buyers may think I am the shill bidder on my own auction, but it's not me. So, on the original post, it may be something out of the seller's control.

I think that the under bidder was simply trying to find out how much the coin was going to cost him and then decided to back out.

    I think I'd be a little pissed.

But then after he retracted his bit, he bid again exactly at my max.
