Thank you! I found it, the date shows up as 1977 (EE 1970) on the listings on ebay. It also appears to be 1 oz silver.
Well, silver's certainly nice. That one must've been minted during Mengistu Haile Mariam's rule. His was a communist military junta that ran Ethiopia from 74 to 87. A time of civil war for that country. I used to work with some Ethiopian people at a hospital once years ago. One of them was a woman whose name was "Abiyot" which meant "Communist" in Amharic. She was born during that time, and such names were encouraged there. She ditched that name and later went by the name, "Mimi" instead.
Man can you imagine how she felt when she grew up and realized what her name meant? I would have changed my name too. Nice story. =)
