So I pulled this out of a roll yesterday. I have looked around on ebay but can't find anything that looks anywhere near mine. How do would you go about putting a value on a piece like this? I'm not planning on selling it or anything. Just curious.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

It does look like a lamination, but one created by someone with a steady hand holding an Exacto knife.

It's legit. I don't have any doubt about that

Looks like you found another Dead Sea Scroll.

If you are reasonably sure about this, send a couple of pics to Fred Weinberg, an error specialist who might give you some insight on this. This is pretty extreme so he might take an interest. I am wondering about the blackening on this though.

Blackening on the reverse or near the back of Abe's head? It's definitely been circulated so it has some crud on it.

  8. Wow. That is a very very nice lamination.

If you look at it you can see the "IN" and "BERTY" just barely in the area of the lamination.

You should have found yours years ago before that flap got folded over. :)

I think that flap folded over before striking. Maybe... I dunno. :)
I wish I could have found mine before the nasty gunk got on it.
I'm just happy that it made it all these years without losing that flap :)

That flap would have been struck into the bust if it detached pre-strike. It looks like it's laying on top of it.

I'm thinking the flap flip flopped after the strike.

I don't understand how a square lamination is possible.
What is up with what looks like a cut where the fold is.
    I'm thinking PMD.

What cut? I'm a bit confused.

    A great looking error coin.

The flap could not have folded over before strike, and I'm mystified as to how it could end up folded so far over without help, if not struck there by the coining press. For that reason, I cannot help thinking that it had help somewhere along the way.

I think this error needs to be certified if you're going to try to get big money for it.

As I said in the first post, I'm not looking to sell it. Just wondering what an idea of a ball-park value may be. Do you think it would even be worth getting certified?

I personally don't think so . . . I think the rectangular portion looks contrived. Even if it isn't however, I don't believe it laid down as flat over Lincoln as it is without help, as previously stated.
