Yes very nice they are a form or sub collecting area called challenge coins, which are properly commissioning of the ship coin, or ships coins. Don't thing they had any back in the day when I was in the navy.

Ulysses S Grant - 2003 Copy - Someday maybe I will own the real one but the copy is still nice to look at.

 

Aluminum, and have no idea who or why or what the detail on the bust side is very nice.

Your collection of medals are cool, especially the peace around the world side. That is how I see it and wish for it as well.

It also came in a bronze version, somebody on CCF had one other than it is by the Lombardo mint, there is no info on it either on their site or the web. even google images comes up blank lots of images but none of the medal. He also looked for a while and couldn't find anything.
A call to lombardo mint might be in order on Monday. If I find anything more I will post the info.

 

My dad got this when he was a kid and cleaned it with a screw driver and steel wool

That's one of the best ways to clean a coin, I'll have to remember that.
By the way did he use a straight tip or a Phillips head?
