These four presidential dollars are not the best designs. Harry Truman, probably the best portrait of the four, looks like the political commentator George Will.

They're often (all?) based on known photos and/or official portrait paintings. (JFK's downward gaze seems to "inspired" by his official portrait.) But the things that work in photos and paintings aren't necessarily the things that work in coin sculpture.
Well if we weren't smart enough to keep our mouths shut, we'd probably get locked up for being delusional. (Go back to the early 60's and tell them the actor who did "Bedtime for Bonzo" was going to be elected President and cause the fall of the Soviet Union.)
