I managed to find this really interesting specimen a couple weeks ago and just love how unique it is! Never have seen another gold piece with a laminated planchet and the previous owner must have felt the same way, actually having this custom lucite holder made. Obviously the coin has been loved for many years and I feel privileged to be it's custodian for many years to come. If anyone has any information to share, that would be great.
(Seller's pics) I wanted a slabbed walking Liberty half so I ordered one: It should arrive next week. I also ordered a 1964 proof quarter that should also be in next week. I would post the picture but whoever took it saved as a .gif file and it isn't the greatest quality in the world. I'll take my own pictures of it when it gets here. More silver for me!
You only live once and made a great choice. I say to my friends who have no interest in coins at all but go out to eat all the time. When you spend $10.00 bucks a day at Dunkin Donuts and after your done you have nothing to show for it. I can buy a coin for $10.00 bucks and have it for ever, hand it down to my kids, trade with it or do what ever.
I just got this in the mail earlier in the week. Big question, how do you know when the coin was graded ? Always wanted to figure this out.
Only way to get that information is to go to Pcgs I think but still you will only find out the year if lucky.
That last 1939 Jefferson posted above finishes off my toned Proof Jefferson collection (1938-1970). Everything in the set was blessed by PCGS as problem free with grades ranging from PR64 to PR68.
Never saw one like this before, someone must have had this graded before they figured out that it is a WAM
I'm not sure if Wexler or Potter that add details with Pcgs permission walk thru grading . I remember seeing coins done like this at Fun Show back some time ago.Maybe that will help.
Since I am now on the NGC * cameo kick with Kennedys, here is another low population coin that just got added to my collection:
5 of these babies hit the doorstep this afternoon. They all look great except that I had to pull a hair and some dust out of three of the holders. While I had the coins out of the holders I figured I might as well take a shot........
