    Oded-

Are you having a bad day? Sorry... ghu knows, I'm not one to hold back, but really, from somebody running for ANA governor, I expect a higher standard. Even if he is a clueless id10t [and I'm not saying he is], you had a wonderful opportunity to sell the ANA to a bunch of non-members. Turn all of your comments around and accentuate the positive. You could have said:

Maybe you aren't aware of the ANA library - 100,000 [? I don't know the #] numismatic items - books, magazines, even DVDs - are available to members to borrow for just the cost of postage. You may have heard the statement "buy the book before the coin?" ANA membership gives you the opportunity to read an out of print book too. One you won't find at your local library.

    Etc.

Yes. Met him in Portland and he asked for my vote.

    Burton,
Thanks for the great plug for the ANA Library. It really is a wonderful resource for numismatic literature.

One other thing about the library -- if you attend Summer Seminar, you can check out materials on-site, then just pay for the postage one way to return it. Or, if you check something out 6-12 weeks before you arrive for Summer Seminar, you can return it at Summer Seminar and save on your postage as well.

In addition, fo rhe Summer Seminar, don't they have a book sale at the time?

Oded is an all right sort of guy when you meet him. English was not his birth language, I'd bet, judging from his accent. What some of you see as rudeness may be nothing more than an unfortunate choice of words that someone using English as a second language might trip over. I know Oded's policy ideas for the ANA are sound. Honestly, from attending the Candidates' Forum at Portland, none of these guys qualifies as especially glib or eloquent, including the incumbents. Jeff Garrett is about as smooth as they get, and he's unopposed, at least in the sense that he has no opponent. A few people are taking potshots at his plans.

I find the Numismatist downloaded as a PDF and hooked into the iBooks app on my iPad as more than enough. Removes the need to manage piles of publications. By the way, my Numismatic News and CoinWorld subscriptions are both digital too.

The ANA has one key crisis - members are dying faster than new ones are joining. Retaining new members for Year #2 is especially a challenge. There are all kinds of incentives for newbies, but that second year check is proving hard to collect. If anybody expects the ANA to become a "Kum Bay Yah" picture of peace and harmony and agreement, well, good luck with that. Look around you here on these threads. Everybody knows better than everybody else about everything. It's the nature of the numismatic beast - we're not the easiest people to be around. We're quirky, self-impressed, and a little too full of ourselves, as a general rule. So, in light of that, this quirky, etc. organization seems like the perfect fit to me.

    ANA ?
Post started with 1 or 2 semi simple answer paper or computer.
Once that was answered, it became clear that there was some very hateful remarks about ANA. I don't know why some people can hide behind a screen and pour out madness. I see everywhere online CoinTalk is getting almost like Facebook Twitter etc.
Cointalk has no membership fees but some do sign up to pay to help keep this site online. Please remember this NOT Facebook or any other or the social media places where you can hide behind a screen and pour out any hateful remarks.
I'm glad we have 3 - 4 members who gave a honest and a helpful answer Without any hateful intent.

    Hey Jake,

If you've got any pull to change my state's fiscal year, maybe I could make a Summer Seminar or two. As it is, early August is going to be a question mark this year. Gotta love 'em.

I joined up a couple weeks ago. I may not get a mag until next month. I don't like reading digital versions of magazines either.
