One of us, at least, perhaps both of us, is clearly high. "Seller is doing nothing wrong". Pffffft. There, THAT STATEMENT, THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS HOBBY!! Until we purge ourselves of attitudes like that, we are the stupid hobby. Sorry, poster I've quoted, but that REALLY ticks me off. This whole "if they're stupid enough to buy it, I'm gonna sell it to 'em" mentality makes me physically ill.

I would say $150 at most, mainly due to the silver. It looks like 70% wheaties, 10% World coins, 20% garbage modern coins, maybe 5% silver (yes that is 105% for all you math whizzes, the last 5% is just non-existent)

Who keeps gold coins in their change jar?

    Especially modern "fantasy" gold coins.

Ooh. Ooh. Is that a gen-u-ayn mid-50s vintage Ball brand canning jar with the separate lid and ring with natural rubber sealing gasket? Do you realize how much collectors are PAYING for those?

    VoiceOver commentary:

Upon which Kurt dropped the mic, hopped off the stage, and chatted up the attractive if subtly emotionally fragile looking blonde female sitting alone at the bar.

Seller listed a jar of coins for sale. clearly took a picture of a jar of coins, and I have no doubt the winning bidder will receive a jar of coins. The listings is fine and the seller is not committing any crimes, so I do not see any problem with it.

    Ah, ha, .... Yah.

By the way, just for giggles, your eBay Store is called what? I just want to make sure to block it at the router level, so that if the URL somehow comes over, I get a "restricted" error.

Exactly! Yet, I doubt we’ll ever purge them completely. Although there are many honest hobbyists out there, at times it reminds me of what they say on American Greed, it’s full of scoundrels, suckers & saps.

AHHH, but there IS a crime being committed with this post. It's called FRAUD! Even a poor prosecutor could get a conviction on this.

ok.... now this jar being shown has a fake coin in it,,, that's clearly against ebay rules to sell counterfeit coins,, and deceiving people.
But the jars on ebay for sale are just that,,, they show you the coins you can guess at grades, mintmarks, silver or not, etc...
How is that different than going to a sale and buying 5000 baseball cards loose in a box with a couple of semi rare ones poking up for 500 bucks and finding only 300 in value?
Or video lottery machines,,, you know they are designed to make people lose money,, but they still get played all the time.
There are scams in every industry, every hobby, and just life sometimes scams you.
every business that charges you 15 dollars for sometimes while down the down the same thing costs 8 dollars is a scsm too.
I would say just don't bid on them and get a good laugh about it, I wouldn't worry about whats fair or right.

I agree with bkozak, I don't see any fraud either. Pictures a jar of coins, says it is a jar of coins, makes no comments or promises about what will be in it (other than the line that says composition will be gold, silver, and other. And if the fake double eagle is gold plated, you are getting gold as promised.) Says you will get the exact jar pictured. Now it he sends you a different jar you might have a claim. But if he sends you THAT jar with those coins in it he has delivered exactly what he has promised and what you have seen.

Wow. He writes, "I wouldn't worry about whats (sic) fair or right."

There you have it, folks, another reason to run and hide from this hobby. I'm sorry. This makes my blood boil. If this (j-word that means 'donkey') is an ANA member, his credentials need to be stripped and he needs to be forever banned - for that line alone.

Ethics IS my LIFE, darn it. Without a highly restrictive ethical code, life is simply not worth living.

Search the ANA website, money.org, for my treatise on ethics.

I remember from my political science course that at any one time, 3% of the voting age public don't know the name of the President of the United States. Being stupid is one thing, but taking advantage of stupid people is another. Shame on them!

I do not think anything illegal was done. Unless he claims that you will get 10 double eagles and there none or something like that the listing is fine. Not a good choice to buy it but not illegal or big fruad.

"Illegal" or "fraud" is not a high enough bar. Ethical behavior requires behavior far far above the subjects of laws, rules or policies.
