Currently on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1860-O-Silv...503?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ae6c7dbbf I can't see anything wrong with this, but it can't really be real, can it? It just looks too nice.
There is nothing "too good" about it at all; it's the most commonly found high grade No Motto Seated dollar and it has been scrubbed to death.
If it isn't legit, I don't see any indication. It is really harshly cleaned though. Pretty noticeable edge bang @ 3 o'clock obverse. EF+ features?
I have seen numerous fakes. I weight them first (brass is lighter then silver), then i do a density test with a scale and water. I can say, a little math has prevented me from ever getting a fake. Nevertheless I have seen many.
Very harshly cleaned. Coins that haven't been cleaned should show some surface crust. This coin is just one dull flat color without any remaining luster. You also have a significant rim bump and some hairlines left from the scrubbing.
I agree with the consensus: this coin has been off to see the Whizzard, or it's a cast fake. It's the only way to account for the excellent details but apparently complete lack of luster. Also a pretty substantial hit behind Liberty's head.
Genuine but polished to death. I'd buy it and keep it as a pocket piece until it looked descent if it went cheap enough.
