I'm I finally got my first slabbed Ike. I overpaid I think. I paid $50. I do think there are any varieties. I'm planning to get another one soon. Hoping to get a complete Circulation Strike and Proof Strike set eventually like my Kennedys.
Well, you may have overpaid a bit, since most Ike's in similar grade and even 40% silver, typically retail between $30-$40.....and U.S. Silver mint types from $50-$70. But, it is high grade and attractive...so you could have done far worse... There are many ways to put a coin, especially a slabbed coin, in context with current retail values---and that way you can have a good idea if it is a typical price or a bargain or way overpriced....Among them are coin books and googling the coin itself and simply comparing prices....As an 'old dude' i still compare the values on a 'Coin World' magazine listing---all US coins from day one to the present and all their values by type, grade, mint and year. Of course that info can generally also be accessed online. Best of luck and enjoy!!
That's alright, we can't win them all. Ive overpaid for countless things, many of which embarrassingly stupid. Now, before i buy anything i look for ebay sold listings, and other prices. Also the redbook kind of helps, but is too high of prices. I like the app pcgs price guide. Its good for when i'm on the go, I think it might only be for apple interface though. As Mikey Zee said, could have been worse. Nice coin though
Nice Ike! Might be pricey for a clad. I'm not sure of the populations for the grade. Keep an eye on that, and keep searching for others for your set. And only buy the best you can find. It will make you happiest and good eye appeal may reward you later if you ever need or want to resell. Remember there will soon be a new Ike dollar to collect too, along with the 1990 Commemorative silver dollars (and 5-star Generals, if you get really into Ike coinage). Ike Inagural medals are kind of nice, too.
It's OK to be all about Ike's. You can claim you were "Crazy for Ike's"before it was cool. I hope you spend a lot of time reading at the Ike Group's web site. I do. Your coin looks awesome!!
did you try and ask them for a lower price ? sometimes it works. I usually ask is there any wiggle room here ? not sure I would get slabbed unc's ? proofs definitely slabbed or in an airtite for sure.
