wow! Not only are these coins toning and blending the colors beautiful, they are good dates. Nice collection.
Thought some of you might be interested to see how a coin might translate from an original mint sealed cello pack to PCGS TrueView photo. When you toss a lot of light on a proof mirror and catch some of that thin refractive color, things can really explode. I cherrypicked this proof set from my local bricks and mortar coin dealer for under $25. PCGS graded the Lincoln PR67RB.
61 and 62 proof nickels tone very nicely too. I've have seen some killer toned nickels in those two dates.
Picked up a cheap one today just because it's my younger daughters birth year. Shipping to and from PCGS would be more than this cost me.
Thanks, 49ers. I'm working on a complete set and hope to finish it someday. I've got a lot of tough dates left. Many thanks to Robec for the awesome images!
Thanks for showing this example. Cool coin and neat to see an example still in the mint packaging. I went to a local B&M and asked if I could look at their proof sets and unfortunately the dealer's response was that he would pull a set out if there was a particular year I wanted but he wasn't going to let me pick through them. I plan to try some other coin shops when I get a chance. Would love to pick a coin like that.
I bought this raw a couple years ago from the set it came in. So I decided to send it in to NGC awhile back. The LCS I got it graded through seemed to think it didn't grade a 70 because the graders "didn't like the toning." I don't know what that has to do with grading, if anything.
Nice specimen! I just sent a 1966 SMS sealed set to NGC for grading. 4 came back Unc. Details - Artificially Toned and the Lincoln sent Unc. Details - Enviromental damage. I can understand the cent, but I thought the others would grade. I thought wrong.
Sealed as in Ngc holder?? Sealed SMS holder. I know I sent off 1944-D Washington quarter and few more from bank rolls , the year Ngc came out will there new holders two came back White . But 1944-D Washington Has toning now about six years in there sealed holder. What would that This be called??
It was clear in my head when I was typing it...lmao. Sorry about the confusion. I sent a sealed 1966 SMS set to NGC for grading. They opened the SMS set and didn't care for the toning.
