I just received this Roosevelt dime from a member here. I scoped it and it to me appears to be an 1947 S RPM. As I looked the RPM's up this one does not exist . What do ya think? 1947 S Roosevelt.jpg

Is that doubling on the diagonal stroke--interesting!

That's a bounce. The primary or overlaying image is too foreshortened.

I have agree. There is a few 1947-S Roosevelt Dime variety listed But Roosevelt Dimes are one coin that overlooked. I am not sure if Rpm or maybe one die variety. Great photo!!

I'm leaning towards a s over inverted s as it looks similar to the one on variety vista only backwards if that makes sense . Sometimes it's hard to train your eyes to see what is truly there. As your brain interpretation has to rethink it backwards as well as the true image.

Here cherry pickers guide for 1947-S S/D mint marks both listing. If this helps.

Thanks Jello I have the CPG and have looked at Variety Vista and it's not listed. However I do believer it is. And I posted it over at N $ and even Frank said RPM. And to get a RPM out of Frank and not an PMD is just about as good as getting a like out of Doug. Miracles do happen.... :)

Paddy, I'm probably a little late with this, but I didn't want to leave you without a reply. Angie's (Jello's) photos show well what I'm referring to on the foreshortening aspect in relationship to the overlaying image. Look at his overlaying or "top" images and note the thicknesses of those characters, then look at your "top" image and note how "thin" or "foreshortened," comparatively-speaking, that is. That's because the strike took a "hop" and smeared half that character off, the half you're seeing as the secondary image. You see that in strike doubling, too. When you see the "top" character is smeared out of shape like that to form the bottom character, 99.99% of the time it's due to the striking. In fact, sometimes I think the percentage may even be higher than that, lol.

As a general proposition the top character has to be intact for the real deal. General propositions do not decide concrete cases, however, meaning, there are exceptions, as in, sometimes the top characters are deformed. The big thing to be mindful of is, the bottom character will always "take" or "borrow" or "steal" from the top character to form the bottom character, when it's due to the strike. Concurrently, the top character will be "foreshortened" or "thinned," to that same degree.

Paddy, I'll let you know when my book comes out. Lol. :)
