Wow I did not know that. Quote from Answers.com - "The US didn't mint any nickels in 1932 or 1933 due to the Great Depression. If you have an American "nickel" dated 1932 or 1933 it's a fake. A few private companies have advertised replica "coins" with those dates, supposedly so that collectors can "fill in the missing dates". However no reputable coin collector would consider that to be an acceptable practice." - unquote

I knew someone would end up having one. I wonder how many 1938's were tooled to look like 33's.

I must work on my syntax. I meant swap as in I'd take that Buffalo in a heart beat over a new nickel.

edit - and I'm no party pooper!! :)

It's a bicentennial medal designed by Frank Gasparro that I put through an image filter program to make it look "cool" ... He's my favorite engraver ... and here's an example of the medal.

A member (former?) of this site, Mr. Brooklyn (Ruben) has some more information on this design and it's relationship with the reverse of the Eisenhower dollar on his site here. (Contains information from Rob Ezerman/The Ike Group)

hi, my name is robert, and i am new to coins, i was thinking about purchasing a 1913 buffalo nickel (with the letter F) , for frasier?, from a local woman, and i am unsure what a fair price on it would be to offer... i spoke to a coin dealer in new hampshire, and said it was probably an $8 - $10 coin, i told him i thought it was in good to fair condition. any advice??? thank you!!!! - robert

Hello Robert, James Earle Fraser was the designer of the buffalo nickel. I really can't help you unless I see the coin you want to purchase. Also very important. If you want to seek any info or share coins here on CoinTalk you should always start you own thread. Going on someone else's post is considered thread hijacking. Or you can send the Original Poster a private message.
