A big thanks to one of the tellers at my bank. Dropped by to change some small bills into larger bills and he asked me about a standing liberty quarter he had. The date was worn off. But turns out someone had brought in a whole roll of them, all worn down a lot with no dates. He managed to keep four after one of the other tellers grabbed the roll and took it for herself. So he let me buy the four he had, which was nice of him. They are badly worn without even a hint of a date even looking with a loop. So they will just go into my "junk" tube for junk silver. But I have been trying to train them to look for certain kinds of bills and silver coins. He said that a lot of times when people bring something in the will say they have this big coin or something and someone else in line will say "I'll take that" and the teller never gets to get a hold of it. So I told him next time he gets some rolls of silver or any silver, just keep it from the other lady and I'll gladly take it off his hands...dimes, quarters, halves, etc.
You should get his home address (or at least an e-mail address) so you can send him a "special" thank you gift every so often. I'd guess that they aren't allowed to accept gifts at the bank. Chris
At my CU, the tellers know me and save anything odd for me. Every week I bring them a dozen doughnuts or a little box of cookies for their break room. They yake good care of me so I take good care of them. Try it, it works.
Ditto to all what was suggested...It makes it a lot easier to deposit the clads etc when you go through rolls and return to the bank...
If you want to do a gift like Chris suggested, a $5 Dunkin' Donuts gift card would never hurt I still can never thank the cashier at the supermarket that had 32 Walking Liberties she sold for face, she has set some 40% aside for me too. Congrats on that score, good thing you went to the bank that day! Daniel,
Well, I do treat them to stuff now and then. I make homemade banana bread or during the summer I make zucchini bread with zucs from my garden with dark chocolate in it and drop a loaf or two at the bank for them to pork out on. Sometimes it's a box of See's candy I bring from Calif or something else. I don't do it every week but sometimes I take a cool coin in or bill and show it to them or talk coins with a couple of them at times. They all know me by name since I have been going there for about 12 years. I used to get boxes of halves but it got so dry that I quit doing it. But they have changed some personnel and supposedly the ones there now, including the silver hog, are permanent for quite awhile but you never know.
I found the birth years of the tellers and gave them each a proof half I've found through roll searching from their birth year. Well...most of them. A couple of them are going to be tough. There should be an age limit on bank tellers.
