Yup, I do it too, but the coin has to be heads up. If it's tails, I flip it to heads and then pick it up. Why, say you? A couple of years ago I picked up a 'tails' nickle and had one of the worst days of my life.

Those manhole covers get heavy though don't they!

I pick up all the coins I see as well. I need to get out more though, if I can pick up about 5 cents a day it keeps me in gas money.

Cheaper to buy a head of cabbage if you are only getting five cents a day. Lot's of gas there.

The best place to pick up dropped coinage is at just about any fast food drive-up window. They usually get mad when you do it; they claim its "theirs".

Ya um no that's not right of them to say, its either the customers change that has dropped, or when the customers pay it fell on the floor, which they would have to get a new coin(s) for the cashier so. Either way it is the customers coins. But i guess it is on their property, but what are the chances they are going outside to get it ever? And what are you getting out of it, 50 cents, really just calm down fast food staff.

Or under any big old lonely tree in the middle of a field, with a metal detector, where some bone weary farmer sat for a spell after a hard days work.

And gas stations. Pretty much first come first served and luck of the draw though.

I generally won't pick up anything less than a quarter, the dollar has been so devalued that its no longer worth the extra wear on my back to pick up money. o_O

Found one quarter and one cent on my lunch walk to my LCS just now.

    Always pick them up.

I always look up to the stars and remain hopefully of something big. It would appear that I need to lower my aim.

Yahoo I'm not the only "weirdo" as my wife calls me. I picked up a 69 cent up from the parking lot at target two hours ago.

I used to work highway construction and found coins on the side of the road ALL the time. Left side of the highway, the breakdown lane, at at red lights on the lef side against a curb were always hotspots for coins. I used to pick up $5/week in change at that job.

Highway overpasses were great for paper bills after a rainstorm. The water drains from above would drain and dump on the side of the overpass. All you had to do was go over to the drainpipes soon after a storm and you would find $1,5,10, 20 and rarely a $100 (no idea how people are losing these) sitting in the mud/water.

Nowadays, i have a different job so i don't have access. I always pick up change though. I can't see a penny on the ground and not pick it up. Every once in a while it's worth it. I've found plenty of wheaties on the ground, and I do have a silver quarter that i found (marked up by cars running over it) and a few silver war nickels.
